Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's One-Day International Squad Versus India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-match ODI series versus India, with high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a surprise selection.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international side following scoring just one run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.

The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a red-ball recall as Australia look for a answer to their top-order woes.

Squad Selection Strategy and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”
