The second-hand marketplace Members Share Frustration Regarding Sizing Modifications

Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.

The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes without notifying every member regarding the update.

Digital Channels Response

Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a different size category than originally posted because of the remapping.

The platform stated the new system was more in line with other platforms.

They have suggested members to review their products and adjust the sizing manually when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.

Measurement Approach Modifications

Earlier, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.

The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

Member Stories

A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

A different member, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.

Manual Updates

Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".

"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she said.

Marketplace Information

The service features exceeding 100 million users, with 18 million British users.

It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: last year, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
