Donald Trump has accused an Australian media representative of "hurting the country" after being questioned regarding his own financial activities while holding office.

Trump was questioned by an ABC correspondent representing the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on the topic of how much richer his fortune had grown since re-entering the White House this year.

"I don't know," Trump replied, mentioning the sons and daughters handled the Trump enterprises. "In my opinion, you're hurting the nation very much right now, and they aim to get along with me."

He added Trump planned to be meeting PM Albanese "very soon", adding: "I will inform him regarding you. You're establishing a very bad tone."

After the journalist sought to pose an additional query, he raised his hand to his lips prior to stating "silence" and moved away to engage with a separate reporter.
